Kentucky Labor Cabinet Proposes Merger with Public Protection Cabinet

Louisville’s 89.3 WFPL reports that the Kentucky Labor Cabinet has proposed a merger with the Public Protection Cabinet.  The merger, cabinet leaders say, “would save money, streamline government and improve the functions of Kentucky’s Occupational Safety and Health [KOSH] agency…”  A federal audit released in August of 2018 was highly critical of KOSH.

Since the Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims (DWC) is under the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, WFPL reports that, under the proposal, the Public Protection Cabinet would take control of the regulatory functions of the DWC.  The DWC administrative law judges would then become a “quasi-judicial agency under the General Government Cabinet.”
